This piece of art is a sculptured vessel that seems to be made out of slabs. The artwork uses many elements of art. It uses line in each edge. It also utilizes negative space because of it’s decrease in size as the viewer’s eye follows the movement upwards. The texture of the piece is rough, dry, and unglazed.

The work also uses the principals of organization. The complimentary colors create contrast and variety. It’s round repeated shape creates rhythm. The main principal of this artwork is movement. The viewer’s eyes move from the large bottom of the piece upwards because of it’s shape, proportion, and use of space. It appears to be vertically symmetrical at first glance, however, upon further inspection it leans to one side. The emphasis on this piece is on the construction. The ill built edges and corners draw the viewer’s eyes.

I believe that the artist meant to use the elements, principals, and construction to create an older feeling about the vessel. The colors are blotched and look as if the paint has chipped off. The form of the piece follows ancient building structures such as pyramids.

The vessel is ill constructed, however, all of this seems to be purposeful in the artist’s attempt to make the piece seem ancient. For example, it looks like it has been dug up from the ground. I think the piece is successful in it’s purpose, however, I think that the artist should have made the construction less sloppy. Old does not necessarily mean ill constructed.
